We’re dedicating our 2015 day of service to improving a neglected public easement parking strip. Its adjacent commercial property owner has never taken care of the space, leading nearby residents to pick up the slack. So we thought we’d give them a hand and improve an entrance to our neighborhood while we’re at it!

Volunteers will remove the weeds and install decomposed granite pathways, boulders and mulch to delineate the spaces and make the Lewis Avenue entrance to Cal Heights from Wardlow Road more attractive for residents and visitors. If we have time, we’ll also plant a few native plants that will accept the benign neglect of this fallow space.

CHNA will provide the decomposed granite, boulders and mulch. We’ll have plenty of gloves on hand and some tools, but we ask volunteers to bring flat nose shovels and buckets for filling with dirt.

We also have some local deals for lunch from our supportive friends on the Wardlow Strip! Each volunteer will choose a 50% off meal from Blackbird Cafe, Hole’ Mole’ or Roxanne’s, their way of saying thank you for your Day of Service contribution!

We hope you’ll grab a friend or neighbor and join us. If you have a teen in need of service hours, we can sign for their time, just have them bring their forms along.

Meet up at 3400 Lewis Avenue (corner of Wardlow/Lewis) by 9:00 am and we’ll get to work!
